B-Folders for Android FAQ

Q: Is there a desktop version of B-Folders to sync with?
A:
Yes, and it offers more than you expect - http://jointlogic.com/b-folders

Q: Is it possible to import data from other applications?
A:
Yes - using the Desktop version. Currently Palm Desktop, eWallet, Spb Wallet, SplashID, generic CSV and B-Folders CSV are supported.

Q: I cannot recall my password. How can I recover or reset it?
A:
It is not possible to recover or reset passwords. The B-Folders application uses an extremely strong, government-grade encryption cipher AES-256 and since we use an open-source encryption library, it is certain that there is no backdoor implemented. You have two options: create a new repository by deleting the current one; or restore an old backup that was created with an old password that you can recall.

Q: Are backups encrypted?
A:
Yes, backups are encrypted with the password in use at the time of creation. Make sure you retain old passwords in case you need to restore old backups.

Q: What are these numbers in the name of the backup file?
A:
The date of creation is encoded in the name of the backup file in the following format - YYMMDD.

Q: Why do I have to enter my password so often?
A:
You can increase the auto-lock timeout for inactivity if you have long pauses while using B-Folders.

Q: Why do I see a pop-up saying "B-Folders database closed"?
A:
This is a non-intrusive indication that your database has been closed either for inactivity or for pressing the Lock button.

Q: Where is my database located?
A:
You can have a database on your device’s internal storage (not USB accessible) and on the device’s SD card that can be accessed with a USB drive.

Q: The application seems to be unstable - I get Force Close and java.io.IOException. What can I  do?
A:
The problems is with the Android installer - uninstall and then install the application  again and it should work correctly. Back up your database and any other important data beforehand.

Q: What if I am on a business trip and my phone gets broken? How can I access my data?
A:
B-Folders uses the same database and backup formats on mobile and desktop platforms. You need to find a computer with a memory card reader and connect the memory card from your phone to the computer. Next, download the B-Folders desktop version from our web site. You can then restore a backup from the memory card or sync with the database on the SD card.

Q: I get a "Package file was not signed correctly" error when trying to install or update B-Folders. What should I do?
A: In very rare cases, the Android installer corrupts installation metadata and fails to install or update an application. The solution is to uninstall the application from Android Settings > Applications > Manage applications. If the application has not been installed, the final solution is to reset the phone. In any case, back up your database and any other important data beforehand.

Q: Is it possible to create custom forms (cards)?
A:
B-Folders 2.20.3 introduced a new customizable item type – the Card - and added custom fields to some stock item types. You can use Card for bank accounts, frequent flyer accounts, insurance policies, and other structured information. We have planned even more customization options for future versions. You can also use Notes to store any kind of information including (but not limited to) tasks, clothing sizes, etc.

Q: How can I move my database from my device's internal memory to its SD card?
A: Basically, you need to back up your database from one location and restore it on the other location. Follow these steps: 1. Make sure Database on internal storage is selected at the top of the Home screen of B-Folders.  2. Select Settings > Maintenance > Back up database. 3. Press the Back button to return to the Home screen of B-Folders. 4. Select Database on SD card in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. 5. Press the Menu button and select Restore a backup. Select the backup you've just created and confirm to restore.
